It's a Marshmallow World in the Winter

Yesterday I was faced with the daunting task of writing an entire 3000 word essay... so I dressed up to make myself feel awesome!

I think the outfit did help. That, and bribing myself with boots... hahah.

I've had this outfit in mind for quite some time, ever since I "rescued" this brown silk vest -- it's missing a button in the middle (right where a belt would cover!), and was on the way to the Salvation Army. MINE!

I knew I wanted to wear the vest over this striped tuxedo shirt for its debut. Once I had it on with the black shorts and stockings, I knew I had to wear it with this vintage mohair shawl! Too perfect.

I actually had a different belt than this studded one in mind, but I couldn't find it :S I cleaned my room today, that's why I'm posting so late!

I'm so in love with the lighting in these photos. It's really rare that I'm able to take pictures at the supposed "perfect" time of day: an hour before sunset. Only on Sunday! And sometimes on Saturday, haha. Soon school will be done for Christmas break though, I'll be able to sneak it in on Mondays and Wednesdays too! Yesss.

I also love that the snow has stayed... having said that, it'll probably melt tomorrow! But it makes such a lovely romantic background.

I've been trying to maximize my backyard's "backdrop" potential as well. Today, I present: the stick pile! Hahaha.

You can sort of see them in this photo: I wore my suede slouchy cowboy boots with this outfit! I needed some leg-elongation, short shorts can be stump-ifying :P

Billy and I are watching The Sound of Music as I type... it's the intense part!! Gotta go!

Happy dressing!

I'll be so blue thinkin' about you

It took me forever to "name" this post! I didn't want to outright call it "Blue Christmas" because... it's not Christmas yet! It's not even December, haha. But I will have a slightly blue Christmas because my Billy will be going home! That's okay though, because I'm driving to the Valley (Annapolis Valley, where his parents live) Christmas afternoon!

Right. On to the outfit!

Get it? Blue? Hahaha!

Another menswear look. I really love this one! So much navy and blue...

This bright blue button-down shirt has to be one of my new favourites... it's close-fitting, the buttons on the front don't gape, and it has slightly puffed sleeves! Mmm, everything good.

Keeping with the "blue" theme, I added heaping doses of navy: the beret, the vest, and the leather jacket!

I also wore my black satin skinny trousers and suede booties for a nautral ( but not too neural!) bottom half!

As has been the case with a lot of my outfits lately, I had a really hard time deciding on which jacket to wear! I was thisclose to wearing my purple jacket from my Tribute to Mondo! post, but at the last moment decided on this one! I like the "tough" element it adds to my menswear look :P

To top off the look, I added my zebra-print tie! I love the way the bright blue, navy blue, black and white look together :D

In fact, there's even more blue in this outfit than meets the eye: there's a neat pattern on the back of the vest! It's hard to tell from this photo, but it's kind of a white flower or snowflake pattern on periwinkle blue.

I really loved wearing this look. It was a spur-of-the-moment outfit planning too! I had another outfit in mind for these pants, but when I put it on it looked awful. So I snappily decided on this one! Hooray!

So, as I may have mentioned, I got an extension on the first of my four term papers... which means I'm still working on it now! Haha. Ah well. I've decided to "bribe" myself with a pair of delicious dark brown Victorian granny boots! As soon as I type the last word on this $%^&*%$@ paper, I'll order them. Yesss. I have a bribe lined up for papers two and three also. One for both, because they're due on the same day... guhhh.

Back to work!

Confessions of a Shopaholic

So, as you know if you've been reading my blog, I recently "grounded" myself from buying clothes... I didn't set a timeframe for the grounding, but I guess I had thought it would last 'til after Christmas.

HAHA.

I bought this fabulous piece of great beauty yesterday... and my vow of no-buying completely crumbled!! I also bought a skirt, a dress, a scarf, and a hat. Oops! It's a serious problem, I'm completely addicted to clothing :P

But look how lovely it is... it's so soft, so warm, and so chic! I noticed these on Chictopia a while ago, and thought "hmm, interesting" but I don't buy "new" clothes, so I didn't go to H&M looking for one.

So then, yesterday, I was at work minding my own business... when a consignor came in with this. I almost passed out with excitement!!! I'm still eyeing a dress she brought in as well... it's a grey-on-grey animal spot print sweaterdress. Mmm. I haven't allowed myself to try it on!

I was even more excited when she suggested $20 as the price!! I get 50% off consignment items because I'm the manager of the shop... $10 for the camel-coloured knit poncho of my dreams!

Don't you love the perfect little faux-leather buttons on the sides?! And the cowl-like-neck?! And and and... ahhh. I never want to take it off! It's like a snuggie, only suitable for public!

Luckily, the outfit I was wearing yesterday went perfectly with the poncho! It actually helped in my decision to actually buy it, haha. At first I didn't even let myself try it on... I put it in the back room, and busied myself with other things, sneaking a peek at it every now and then to  make sure it was really there! I finally let myself try it on, and I LOVED the way my puce-coloured (purplish-grey) skirt peeked out, and the contrast of the royal blue sweater with the camel! Mmmmmmmm! Best purchase ever. The others are preeetty great too, you'll see them soon enough! I'm semi-grounding myself again. Only exceptional circumstances will unground me!

Here's the outfit I actually wore yesterday, haha. See, I was already going for the swooping-outerwear shape with the black lace shawl!

I wore my forest green velvet blazer over the blue sweater, as it was only slightly cold. The scarf, even though it's lace, is actually pretty warm when worn as a scarf! It's made of some kind of polyester-plasticky stuff, so no air goes in or out, cold air included! It keeps me warm when it's around my shoulders too. Yesss. Another Hazel's Bless Your Heart find!

It's hard to tell in these poor photos, but the belt I'm wearing is forest green too! Perfect matchy complement to the blazer. I love its bow-like shape :D

This wonderful skirt is perfect for winter too... it's made of sweater! Hooray!

Much as this is an okay outfit, I felt like there was something missing... I didn't take pictures in the morning, partly because in a rush, partly because this outfit felt "meh" to me. It needed the poncho! Hahaha ;)

Hahaha I figured I'd leave you with a hilarious blooper :D I'm off to work on an essay with a glass of Pinot Grigio... wish me luck!

Happy dressing :)

Cruella DeVil

This is a pre-snow oldie, but I love it! The black and white in it reminded me of Cruella DeVil in a funny, fur-free way :P

I've had this skirt for a while, but due to the LARGE polka-dot print, it's more difficult to style than I thought it would be!

I rarely wear this zebra-print pasmina due to its equally large and difficult-to-style pattern. So, I wore them together! Haha.

I recently bought this forest green sweater (it was actually my last purchase before my clothes-buying-grounding). I love it with the black and white patterns!

It was a yucky rainy day! I think my leopard umbrella adds the perfect amount of even more animal print to the look!

To add a bit of elegance, I wore a faux-patent leather belt at my waist for an elongated silhouette. To elongate it even more, I wore my point black suede cowboy boots and knee-high dark grey socks!

My silver faux-leather jacket was the perfect outerwear for this one! I wore my reddish-brown leather gloves as well :)

Despite the nasty weather, the photos from this shoot are some of my favourites yet! I love the way the light shines through the umbrella, and the way the deck and background look in the rain :)

The reddish colour in the gloves even picks up the tones in the umbrella! Yesss.

Still slogging away at that paper... time to get back to it!

We'll Build a Man That's Made of Snow

This is what I wore today :D

The snow was still on the ground (it's raining now, it will probably be gone tomorrow), and Billy built a snowman! It was perfect for my photoshoot :D

Haha, this picture makes me laugh. I almost gave the album a "Home Alone" title because of it! I remind myself of a cross between the Macaulay Culkin boy and the bad guys because of the hat and jacket :P

So! I may have mentioned that I have "grounded myself" from buying new clothes for a while. The main reason is because I have tons of clothes that I haven't even worn yet! This dress is one of those things.

The dress was actually more difficult to style than I anticipated! It's sleeveless with a sweet sailor collar. I knew I wanted to wear the blue stockings with it, but I went through numerous cardigans and jackets and coats before I found a combination I was happy with!

The last combination before I settled on the black cardi was a hot pink cardi with big black dots and a black belt. It looked okay, but I wasn't happy with it! Then I saw my red belt, and I knew right away that it would be the right choice! I didn't want too many colours in the outfit... I was going to wear a purple checked scarf as well (with the hot pink and blue), and realized it was getting TOO DISTRACTING from the amazing dress! I kept it simple with the red belt, red necklace and red lips :)

The black cardigan created a nice silhouette with this dress, I think. And it has covered buttons too! I really wanted it to blend well, because this special dress deserved a special first outfit!

The dress also deserved a special first photoshoot! I had so much fun with this one, and it was really hard to narrow down the pictures because they were ALL GOOD. That never  happens!

This action shot is one of my favourites, I look like a little snow elf!

I'm glad I chose this silver faux-leather jacket for this outfit. It was really hard to decide on a jacket; I tried more jackets than I did sweaters and belts! It was the neutral colour and the angular collar that did it. The collar of the cardigan flipped out in the same way when it was belted over the dress, and the square shapes mimic the back flap thing on the dress collar!

Oh yeah!! I just went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, and it was really good!! The special effects were great, and Daniel Radcliffe's horrible acting skills weren't very noticeable :P I want to read the book again, and I can't wait to see Part 2!

Unfortunately, going to the movie meant abandoning schoolwork for the evening... and I completely forgot a library date with my new friend :( Oops!! I hate forgetting things. Baaaah. We're meeting tomorrow instead though! No big deal, the paper we're brainstorming isn't due 'til Friday. Ha. Haha. HA.

Happy dressing!
