Alphabet Challenge!

Like my fancy paint skills? Haha!

So, here are the rules for my Alphabet Challenge, which is going to be "colour" themed!

1. Each day must have a differently named theme. Obviously. Starting with A, B, C, etc.
2. Each outfit will be clearly explained as to why it corresponds with its "name" (in this case, the "main" colour should be apparent, but the outfit doesn't have to be limited to one colour)
3. Rules are stretchy and open to interpretation, rule one is the most important and easiest to follow!

I think this will be fun. We'll see how it goes, and maybe after this challenge I'll do another one! Do you have any suggestions for an outfit challenge you'd like to see me do after this?

Purrfect, Darling!

I wore this last Friday -- definitely one of my favourite outfits in a while!

This one is a Mitzi “classic” because it incorporates everything that I like: pattern-mixing (including stripes and leopard print), colour-mixing (gold and bright navy), a Parisian twist (beret, can’t-see-me sunglasses), and WARMTH. Holy moly, it has been so cold! But I was completely warm in this hooded vintage coat. I didn’t even need to wear a sweater underneath!

Project Runway has been my favourite show since it aired, and this look remind me a bit of the influences of my two favourite designers on the show: first, Christian Siriano. He was so amazing! He was pretty much the role model for me and my best friend Matty. Because of Christian, "fierce" became our buzzword and our motto! If you ask me (and I hope you'll agree), this outfit is about as fierce as it gets! My other fave is Mondo Guerra, and as you may remember from my tribute post, Mondo is all about pattern-mixing.

So, I've been starting to get the "winter blues." I've never been actually diagnosed, but I believe it's called "Seasonal Affective Disorder" -- basically, as the acronym suggests, lack of sunlight makes me sad. For no reason! I had a bad case of it two years ago, which resulted in me totally messing up at school (falling asleep in every single class, getting too far behind in schoolwork to catch up, etc). Now that I know what to look for, I'm hoping to head it off at the pass! There's a "booklight" or whatever it's called at my university health centre, so hopefully sitting with that for a while each day will help.

This is actually one of the reasons I want to do my Alphabet Challenge: a reason to keep getting dressed for life each day! Haha. February is probably the worst month for it, which is odd because February is the best month ever because it's my birth month! Silly nature and your dark winters. Ugh. If anybody has any "challenging" colours they want me to tackle, feel free to comment with them! I think the "rules" for this are going to be pretty lenient, I'm still making them up and will post them later tonight or tomorrow morning. Tomorrow is the first day of the challenge, with letter A! Are you as excited as I am?

Ahhh I can't remember if I posted it on here or not yet, but I'm going to New York during reading week! I'm so excited!!! Yaaaaaaay.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday!

No School in the Upper East Side

This is what I wore this past Thursday, when my university ACTUALLY had a snow day! That seriously never happens, even when there is tons of snow and extremely low temperatures. Although it was tempting not to, I got dressed, because I had to write an essay! I tried to dress studiously :P

We had to take pictures inside again because it was so nasty out! Bleeeh. Anyway. This is the first time I wore my wonderful watercolour-plaid skirt!

I also wore my puffed-sleeve blouse, navy sweatervest, and gray over-the-knee socks.

I don't have Mary Janes, so I went for these patent cross-over shoes!

If I had gone outside in this outfit, I would have worn my faux-fur coat!

I had to throw in some pattern-mixing because this outfit doesn't have much colour! My zebra tie added to the school uniform look, and matched the varying width of the stripes in the plaid!

The skirt is really silky, and it has two layers! I got it at the shop I manage, and I looove it. So luxe-feeling!

This outfit really reminds me of Gossip Girl. Fun!

So I'm getting already for my Alphabet Challenge! I'll post the "rules" either later tonight or tomorrow. I have a couple of backlog posts to put up, but I may be able to jam them all in today and tomorrow! I'm excited :D It looks like the theme will be colours!

The Little Match Girl

Do you remember the story about the little orphan who sold matches? It's so sad! Real fairy tales are really disturbing. Sheesh. Anyway, this outfit reminded me of an "industrial orphan," with a modern twist!

The tattered-on-purpose skirt is what made the outfit! I found it at Value Village a while ago. I was originally drawn to the subtle striped print, and when I pulled it off the rack... the uneven, frayed hem sold me! It's perfect for pirate outfits too :D

I managed to work some subtle pattern-mixing into this one, with the stripes on the vest and skirt!

I also had some major texture going on, the dominant one being cable-knit! I looove cable-knit. The maroon beret has tiny little cable-knit rows, the chunky camel scarf has huuuge cable-knit, the truquoise gloves have cable-knit... and the thick leggings have cable knit! Yaaaay so cozy and... cable-knitty.

I squealed when I thought to wear my cameo with this outfit -- it adds depth to my little orphan scenario! It's like the last family heirloom the orphan has... wow, I read too many intense stories when I was a kid :P

EAR MUFFS! I can't remember if I've posted these before... they're so warm! This was the first time I'd thought to wear them under a beret.

The reason these were taken inside is because it is TOO COLD outside to take pictures! The day I wore this it was -35C with windchill. Nasty.

Hahaha, this is what my dad does when he imitates models! And this is what I do, hahaha:

So! For the month of February I'm going to do an "Alphabet Challenge," where for 26 days I'll create outfits corresponding to each letter, based on a specific theme. I'm thinking colours (February 1, "A", wear the colour Aubergine... or Azure... or Apricot...), but if you have any other suggestions, I'm open! I also played with the idea of fruits and veggies. Hey, two of the colours I listed would work for that too! Haha. What do you think? Care to join me?

Good Golly, Miss Mitzi!

Another outfit with pants? Yes, unfortunately, this winter is way too cold to wear skirts and dresses everyday. That, and I need to do laundry ;)

This is going to be a really quick post, as I have to be in class in half an hour! I created this outfit around my new-to-me beige pants. I had worn this top and cardi combination before, with my navy high-waisted pants, but I didn't take pictures. Yay for recycling outfits! (Sometimes.) I wore my black patent belt to emphasize the stripes on the boat-necked tee.

My black slouchy toque and matching (!) scarf kept the rest of the outfit simple, along with my silver faux-leather jacket.

I was actually extremely underdressed in this outfit... oops! I wore my black suede ankle boots to school (it was sunny when I left the house) and by the time I got out of class at 5:30, it was snowing heavily and there was 5cm of snow on the ground. Oh boy. At least I was wearing cute socks!

I'll leave you today with an awesome blooper...

Hahahaha, this one make me laugh every time. And now, a picture of my very chic cat, Shelley!

Happy Friday! And of course...

Happy dressing!
