Harajuku Girls

I love Gwen Stefani, and I love Japan! This past summer, my family "hosted" two Japanese students studying in Canada. My university has a program through which groups of about forty Japanese students study English in Canada for three months.

Anyway, I don't want to stereotype, but it seems that all of the students from Japan have AMAZING style! They often visit the shop I manage, and when they try things on they wear them so creatively! They buy clothing that look totally frumpy, having tucked it and rolled it into fashion perfection.

The point of my rambling is that some of the students brought their clothes in to put on consignment! So exciting. I bought this amazing animal print sweater dress from one of them, and several other pieces as well! Hopefully the next group does the same!

It was really warm outside today, so I just wore my turquoise corduroy shearling jacket over the dress. Can you believe I got it at Wal-Mart? Almost six years ago, too!

I wore this wonderful floaty scarf to take advantage of the warmth of the day -- it's four pieces of floaty fabric sewn together! I chose it to go with the patterned dress because the flower and heart patterns on each scarf panel are very similar in size to the print of the dress, making for seamless pattern mixing! The muted colours make them blend well together too.

To pick up on the colours in the scarf (and to prevent embarassment in the case of the sweater-dress riding up) I wore my blue leggings. They have little button thingies at the bottom that I find to be kind of useless, so I covered them up with forest green cable-knit socks. They're knee high and looked awful pulled up, so I scrunched them down!

I also wore my new brown granny booties, which are quickly becoming my favourite pair! They're so amazingly comfortable!!

To continue the brown theme, I also wore my brown leather grommeted belt, also from Japan! I got it at the Salvation Army though.

I wore my heart-shaped locket for its marvelous gold tone, and also to match the heart pattern on the scarf! I wanted to do warm browns and golds with this outfit as opposed to cold silvers and blacks. There was too much grey and black in the outfit already, it would have been too harsh! The cream shearling lining of the jacket also picked up the soft yellow of the flowers on the other panel of the scarf :)

I got my haircut! Thanks for the input, whoever commented anonymously -- I completely agreed. I just got a trim, and my bangs touched up because they were starting to poke me in the eyes!
Also, to anyone who doesn't have a google account or whatever, I've made it so you can comment anyway! I love comments, leave them if you're feeling it, and maybe even sign if you want me to know you wrote it, haha.

I had my Christmas party for my Saturday job today -- we went to an Italian restaurant and got presents!! She got me the most amazing mug with a drawing of the Eiffel Tower on it, I was floored by how perfectly thoughtful it was! She also gave me a set of three ceramic mixing bowls in gorgeous shades of red, blue, and yellow, because she knows I like to cook.

Tomorrow I'll start my Christmas wrapping... I have all but three presents in my possession! Woohoo! I also hope to go visit my lovely friend and her new baby :D:D

Hope everyone is having a great week so far! Exams are almost finished, and work will be done for a few days soon, hang in there my friends!

And of course... happy dressing!
