Make Love, Not War

I took a walk on the wild side with this one, varying from my usual girly-skirt-classic-ish style (what is my style? hahaha). Yes, I am wearing camo pants!

I got these pants on super-sale after boxing day, and I couldn't resist. They're so bad... and so GOOD!! I decided to keep everything else classic, with my black textured button-down and navy pinstriped vest... with flowers on the back! Get it...? Love...flowers...camo...haha.

I added some "rocker" vibes to the look with my silver faux-leather jacket and rose-coloured glasses. The cardigan (as seen in my last post, ooops!) was for warmth!

We took these pictures in the "breezeway" at my university... and holy moly, was it ever breezy! Please excuse my "trying not to get blown away" faces. Tyra would send me home.

I also carried my gray faux-leather purse with Union Jack and Duran Duran buttons!

Just in case you haven't had enough, here's a close-up of the pants:

Yaaaay!! They're like an illicit love affair from actual stylish skinny cargo pants :P

Today is a snow day! SO rare for my university. It's this meesy weather mix of snow and freezing rain, because it keeps shifting from about -1C to 0C. Nasty...but awesome. Because now I have the whole day to do nothing...er... I mean, catch up on schoolwork :)

Winter Gold

The yellow tones in this outfit make me really happy!

I created this look around another piece I hadn't worn yet -- this pale gray sweater with brown-and-gold Fair Isle-ish pattern! Another "from Japan" item. Since it's a funny length, I decided to wear it over my high-waisted faux-leather tuxedo stripe leggings, so there were no weird bunchy lines that jeans make. Grrr, jeans.

I wore my black riding boots to continue the "slim" lower-half I was going for :) I also wore my gold pashmina, cream cardigan, and camel softest-ever pompom hat! It's another Japanese treasure!

My camel coat and awesome mittens that my Aunt Val sent for Christmas finished off the look!

I look so grumpy in these pictures! Hahaha. How could I be grumpy in such a sunny outfit?! Pretty sure it was just the sun in my eyes...:)

Oh boy. Schoolwork time, as usual... I have an essay due on Friday! Yuck. Also many proposals and things. But! Tomorrow it's supposed to storm again (15-25 cm of snow), so maybe I'll have some extra time to work on stuff...? Haha, doubt it, my university never closes. Oh well ;)

Let's Talk About the Weather, Yeah

For the past week or so the average temperature here in Southeastern New Brunswick has been about -20C, more or less! Today the high was -23C, and the low was -37C. It's soooo cold, and I've had to be pretty creative with my outfit choices! It takes me about five minutes to unwrap all my layers when I get to school or work, haha!

I think when I wore this it was only around -10C, so I was able to bear taking photos outside! The "base layer" of the outfit consisted of this black raglan-sleeve v-neck sweater, vintage purple wool skirt, sheer black stockings, and khaki green over-the-knee socks. Over-the-knee socks have been a lifesaver (and a leg-saver) this winter! They're so warm, and they enable my skirt-wearing addiction :D

Layer #2: very warm (and very itchy) gray sweater! This is another "from Japan" piece, and I love the female-body-friendly grandpa cut! Its itchiness is bearable when the layer underneath it covers all skin. I was comfy and warm all day! My camel duffel coat and soft black scarf and mitts completed the weather-barrier ;)

I Hope everyone is staying warm :) It may sunds like I'm complaining, but I'm definitely not -- winter is my favourite season! I love being able to wear every stitch of clothing that I own, even if I do have to wear it all at once, haha!

A piece I don't know what Id' do without in the winter: sunglasses! I find winter (during daylight hours) to be almost brighter than summer sun, because of the glare from the snow! Owww. I feel so bad for the eyes of people who forget to wear their sunnies!

Schoolwork time. Bzzt.

Saturated Pastels

It was a cold day when I wore this, so I went for lots of wintry texture!

I wore my muted-turquoise waffle top, puce pleated knit skirt (SO warm!) and my thick argyle-patterned tights. I also wore my new lace-up flats for the first time. I love hw they're the same tone as the tights!

I added my silver belt, just for fun!

I also wore my navy faux-leather jacket and my looooong striped scarf! I've had it since grade 8 or 9. I braided the fringe (with a little help from my friends) one lunch hour in grade 9! Haha, memories...

Sorry I don't have much to say today! I'm trying to fend off the impending swamp of schoolwork that's coming on fast... ahhh! Hahaha.

Never Complain. Never Explain.

With this look, I was going for a Katharine Hepburn feel. Lately I've been trying to figure out what and who my real style influences are. Frankly, I still don't know! Paris is obviously a big one, but otherwise there are no major ones that pop into my mind. However, sometimes I like to play "dress up" with someone in mind!

For Christmas, Billy gave me Tim Gunn's two books: A Guide to Quality, Taste & Style, and Gunn's Golden Rules. Both are awesome and you need to read them. In the first, he talks about style icons, including Katharine Hepburn. Part of her "look" included trousers and turtlenecks. I got these amazing wool pants at Frenchy's. I've been on the lookout for pants like these, and so far have three pairs. Ones that look good are really hard to find though! I must have tried on 20 pairs before I found two that looked "right!"

To keep the look simple and classic, I wore my vintage cashmere turtleneck (a hand-me-down from my mom!), my red snakeskin belt, and my cream-and-black plaid jacket, topped with my black beret and black quilted ballet flats!

I'm starting to get really swamped with schoolwork. Booo! I'm hoping to be able to keep up with my blog and Chictopia page, but if I'm absent for a couple of days you'll know why! I have tons of looks still to upload... one thing I never do is take a day off from putting effort into my outfits. That's like giving in to the pressures of everyday life! Pajamas have their place, and that's in your house. After coffee, then it's clothing time! Haha.

As for the title of this post (a Katharine Hepburn quote), it's something of a "life lesson" that I try my best to adhere to. Sometimes I still complain (who doesn't?), but I try to almost never explain myself. I heard a similar quote once that goes, "never explain yourself: your friends don't need it an your enemies don't care," or something like that. Great words to live by!

So, now I'm going to go "not complain" about catching up on the numerous readings I should have done last week! Hahaha.
